Troubleshooting
My speaker points the wrong way
A speaker faces the wall or fires over the listeners’ heads. Check it is the right speaker, then review its pan and tilt apart from its mounting position.
On this page
The coverage cone faces a wall, or a wall speaker fires over the listeners’ heads. Position, mounting and aim are separate settings, so a speaker can sit in exactly the right place and still point the wrong way.
Check these, in order
- Check the selected speaker. Choose Select and click the speaker you mean. In Properties, confirm its model and its room: with several speakers close together, it is easy to adjust the wrong one.
- Review its aim. Open Aiming & orientation. Adjust pan for its direction on the plan, and the tilt for its vertical angle. Enlarge the vertical coverage view to see the beam.
- Compare with the level. Check how the beam meets the listening height, then choose Sound level in the same view to compare it with the predicted level.
What you should see
The beam changes direction while the speaker stays where it is mounted. The coverage at listening height now reaches the people it is meant for.
Still not right?
- A wall speaker faces into the wall. Set it to Stick to wall in Position & mounting: it then slides along the wall and stays aimed into the room.
- The mount is wrong. Mount is normally Auto, from the datasheet. Force a ceiling, wall or floor mount if the installation is unusual.
- Aimed by the layout tools. Apply layout and Optimise spacing aim speakers at the nearest listener position, or the room centre when there are none. Place listeners where the sound matters, then apply the layout again. See Focus pins and listener positions.
See Aim a speaker and read the vertical coverage for the whole view.
