Troubleshooting

My plan dimensions are wrong

Rooms, cable runs or coverage come out the wrong size. Check a known dimension and the units, set the plan’s scale again, and confirm it on a second dimension.

On this page

A room that should be 10 m long measures 4 m, or the cable runs look far too short. Almost always, the imported drawing is not at the right scale. Fix the calibration before you trace rooms or place devices: coverage, cable lengths and every schedule depend on it.

Check these, in order

  1. Check a known dimension. Find a length that is marked on the drawing, such as a dimension line, and check the units the project is using in the status bar.
  2. Set the plan’s scale. Open Draw on the canvas dock and choose Set scale (calibrate). Mark both ends of the known length and enter its real distance in metres. Read the value before you apply it.
  3. Check a second dimension. Choose Set scale (calibrate) again on another marked length, read the distance the tool suggests, and choose Cancel.

What you should see

The second dimension agrees with the drawing. If it does not, recheck the endpoints you clicked and the units, then set the scale again.

Still wrong?

  • Rooms traced before the fix. After you recalibrate, check the rooms you traced against the drawing underneath, and correct any wall with Edit wall. See Draw walls and set their materials.
  • A DXF that imports at the wrong size. A DXF carries its own scale, but Set scale corrects any plan.
  • A short reference. A few pixels off the end of a short line is a large error. Calibrate on the longest dimension you can find.

See Import a floor plan and set its scale for the whole procedure.
